St Mary’s, linked with St Helen’s is the exquisitely beautiful parish church for the village of Coleorton which is situated on the hill adjacent to the historic Coleorton hall. A warm welcome is assured.
St Mary’s Church is just off the A512 Ashby Road with quite a steep path. Built in a gothic style the oldest part is thought to be the 13th century tower. St Mary’s also has a wonderful historic lych-gate dedicated to the memory of Elizabeth Mary who was the second wife of Canon W.B. Beaumont - one time rector at the church. Inside the church there are some fine examples of Flemish Renaissance woodwork and a 15th century stained (or painted) glass window, as well as the Beaumont tombs and effigies.
