Extra Stitches Workshops
We are excited to be offering three workshops for people interested in furthering their needlework skills.
Mary Tuckey, one of our 'Sew It, Don't Throw It' tutors, will be teaching small groups the skills of patchwork, embroidery and smocking this summer.

Some project ideas and simple stitching samplers from Mary's work are shown above.
Below, a work called 'Butterfly Garden,' created by Mary during the lockdowns of 2020. The black fence symbolises lockdown, confinement & isolation - even loneliness. The gold thread running through it symbolises hope. Looking through a fence, you can see a garden full of colour and occupied by butterflies, with the freedom to go where they will!
Mary trained at Loughborough College of Art and gained her teaching qualification at Stafford College of Art, specialising in dress, design and embroidery. She has spent her entire working life in the 'Rag Trade,' designing, teaching and having her own shop, 'Country Mouse,' in Mill Lane Mews. Now retired, Mary stitches for pleasure and keeps her hand in with small teaching projects.
Workshop dates are Wednesdays 21st May, 18th June and 16th July.
Workshops will be held in the Community Heritage Centre at St Helen's from 2 - 4 pm and will cost £10 per person.
All three skills will be on offer at each workshop, for a maximum of 8 people, to ensure plenty of 1:1 tuition.
You will need to bring:
-
your own sewing kit
-
small pieces of fabric for patchwork
-
a small piece of gingham fabric for smocking
Some embroidery threads will be provided and sewing machines will be available as well as hand sewing tuition.
