Poppy Fall 2021

Early in 2021, we asked local people to knit or crochet poppies for our 'Poppy Fall' display.

We placed a supply of wool in a basket at the back of the church, along with a supply of patterns. We invited people to collect a ball of wall and a pattern, make poppies and return them to us.

The response was overwhelming. We received huge numbers of poppies from individuals, from the local WI groups and from a 'knit and natter' group which meets in the library.

On a Saturday morning in early November, a group gathered in the church to attach the poppies to a net. We were, of course, fortified by a bottomless supply of tea and cake!

The following day, the net was hauled up the side of the church by volunteers and fastened into place.

We hope you'll agree that the end product was a fitting tribute to those who have fought and lost their lives in conflict.
